The Washington Society for the Preservation and Correct Use of English is something I made up. I feel very passionately that language is a tool of infinite value, and that whether we decide to use English properly or improperly, or whether we decide to re-write the rules of propriety altogether it should be above all else a conscious decision. By harping that ‘gift’ is not a verb, buildings do not ‘implode’ (they could, I guess, but usually they don’t), and otherwise being cranky, I hope to encourage people to speak, and thus think, clearly.
In addition to being my own personal soapbox, this page is also the online headquarters for the Washington Society for the Preservation and Correct Use of English, the real-world headquarters of which are in my brain and of which I am the only member.
